In MOON BLUE, Sarice Brudet allows gestures, pigments and layered forms to move across raw fabric, leaving passages of openness between moments of greater density. As part of her CONTEXT OF TIME series, the work considers how experience accumulates: what remains visible, what recedes and how each new layer inevitably enters into a relationship with what came before.

Time is fundamental to belonging. The places, relationships and communities to which we feel connected are rarely experienced as fixed; they acquire meaning through repetition, memory, absence and change. Just as Brudet’s surface holds different gestures without requiring them to dissolve into one another, identity can contain different periods, experiences and attachments simultaneously.

Within Negotiating Belonging, MOON BLUE approaches belonging as something formed through duration. We do not remain the same within the places to which we belong, nor do those places remain unchanged by us. The work gives visual form to this continuous process of accumulation and transformation, suggesting that belonging exists not in permanence, but in the evolving relationship between what we carry from the past, what we encounter in the present and what we are continually becoming.
