In Picking Up Your Unheard Voice, faces and bodily fragments emerge and disappear through interlocking colours and forms. Conxi Sane’s abstract language gives visual presence to inner conversations, emotional tensions and the encounters through which one person’s experience meets another. Figures are never entirely isolated from their surroundings; they overlap, dissolve and re-form through their relationships to what surrounds them.

The title introduces the question of what happens when a voice exists but is not heard. To belong to a community is not simply to be physically present within it, but to be recognised as part of its shared reality. Experiences that remain unheard can place an individual at its margins, even while they remain visibly present.

Within Negotiating Belonging, Sane’s work approaches belonging through recognition and the possibility of being heard. Expression does not require a complete likeness or a fully articulated story; fragments can carry experience, just as partial gestures can establish connection. The work creates space for what has been difficult to communicate, suggesting that belonging begins not only with finding one’s voice, but with encountering someone willing to receive it.
